Who we are

Offscreen In Real Life ("Offscreen") publishes weekly city guides at offscreen-irl.com and on Instagram. Controller: [legal entity name, address, trade licence number]. Contact: [privacy contact email].

What we collect

  • Your email address and the city you signed up for.
  • A record of your consent: the date, time and page where you signed up, kept by our email provider.
  • Basic email stats (opens and clicks), used only to make the guide better.

This website itself sets no cookies and runs no analytics or ad trackers in this version.

Why, and on what basis

We use your email only to send the guide you asked for, or one launch email for a city that isn't open yet. The legal basis is your consent (UAE PDPL Art. 4 and 6; GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email, and withdrawing is as easy as signing up.

Who processes it

Our email provider [beehiiv, Inc., USA, once the account is set up] stores the list and sends the emails on our behalf. That means your data may be processed outside the UAE and the EU, under the provider's data processing terms and standard contractual clauses where required.

How long we keep it

Until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only the record that you unsubscribed, so we never email you again, plus the consent log for as long as the law requires.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, delete or export your data, object to its use, or withdraw consent. Email [privacy contact]. You can also complain to the UAE Data Office or, if you are in the EU, your local data protection authority.

Photos at our events

Under UAE law (Federal Decree-Law 34/2021, Art. 44) we don't photograph or post people without their consent. At Offscreen meetups we'll say when photos are being taken and how to opt out, and we remove any photo of you on request.

Paid partnerships

The guide has no paid placements. Any paid or hosted post on our Instagram is labelled #ad and published under a UAE Media Council advertiser permit.
